Coupled-tank energy transfer

by ourcircuits

4 parts

Two identical LC tanks — 10 mH across 160 nF, ringing at a measured ≈3.9 kHz — with no wire between them: the only link is the mutual inductance of the coupled-inductor pair, a real [L₁ M; M L₂] stamp with M = k·√(L₁L₂) and k = 0.15. C1 ships charged to 5 V, so press run and the energy sloshes: tank 1's ring collapses to a measured 50 mV at 0.91 ms exactly as tank 2 swells to 3.84 V, then the whole exchange runs in reverse. The 8.2 kΩ across tank 2 slowly bleeds the system, so each hand-off comes back a little smaller.
