Center-tap full-wave rectifier

by ourcircuits

6 parts

A center-tap secondary is two 12 Vrms half-windings swinging in antiphase about the grounded tap, so one diode per half steers both half-cycles into the load — full-wave rectification from two diodes instead of a bridge's four. The payoff: current crosses ONE diode drop, measured 0.80 V from half-winding peak (17.65 V) to output peak (16.85 V). The transformer is a real mutual-inductance model, and the 470 µF reservoir smooths the result to 15.74 V DC with 2.11 Vpp ripple.
